Moped Leads to Drug Manufacture Charge

   A Joanna man was being held in the Johnson Detention Center this morning on drug manufacturing charges, as the result of an arrest that followed a call to investigate a moped left on someone’s property in Western Laurens County.

  Sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Haupfear responded to Walker Road near Ware Shoals  at 8:27 Sunday morning on a report of a moped parked in a neighbor’s yard. The caller indicated he watches the yard for his neighbor, who doesn’t live there anymore. The moped driver had reportedly run out of gas. Lt. Haupfear located the man on Highway 252 and brought him back to Walker Road to figure out what had happened. Items were reportedly found in a bag allegedly dropped by the subject that appeared to be items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. 46-year-old Ronnie Wayne Hamby of 141 Tillman Circle, Joanna was arrested and placed in the Johnson Detention Center, where he is being charged with Manufacture of Methamphetamine and Illegal Disposal of Methamphetamine Waste. Hamby was being held, pending a bond hearing.
