Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 7-26-13

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Friday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… You know it’s only 34 days until the Blue Hose open their football season up at Wake Forest on Aug. 29th… The Big South announced yesterday that Coastal Carolina has been picked as the preseason favorite to finish 1st in the conference… Now if you would like to see how they think PC and the rest of the teams will finish you can find that in a posting at GoBlueHose.com… Click on the following to go to that posting:  Big South Preseason Poll
Braves:

  • Mets 7 – Braves 4…. The New York Mets earned a split in the 4 game series with the Braves as they took a 7-4 win over the Braves in New York yesterday afternoon… The Mets went up 4-1 in the 3rd inning but the Braves kept chipping away at the lead and a 2-run homer by Dan Uggla in the 4th inning and a solo shot by Freddie Freeman in the top of the 6th tied the game at 4 all… The Mets then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th which proved to be the margin of victory… Braves Manager Fredi Gonzalez was tossed in the bottom of the 6th when he argued with third base umpire that a triple by the Mets David Wright bounced off a metal railing above the fence and then came back into play should have been a ground-rule double… As a former umpire I hate to say this but replays show Gonzalez was correct… Oh well, no fear of him breaking Bobby Cox’s record for ejections any time soon… The Braves return to Atlanta tonight to start a week long home stand with the Cardinals in for a 3-game series over the weekend.

Greenville Drive:

  • Drive 5 – BlueClaws 4… The Greenville Drive started a road trip last night up in Lakewood, NJ where they took on the BlueClaws… It took them 12 innings to do it, but the Drive took a 5-4 victory over the Claws… The Drive got a 2-out double by Mario Martinez to drive in the winning run then set the BlueClaws down in order in the bottom of the 12th… The teams are scheduled to play 3 more games over the weekend in NJ.
