Clinton Coach Pitch Dixie Youth All-Star Team: The team was in action in the championship series this weekend up Rockwood, TN.

  • Saturday: Amelia 4 – Clinton 3… In the first game on Saturday, 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning for Amelia proved to be the difference in the game as they took a 4-3 win over Clinton to hand Clinton their first loss in postseason play… Both teams scored 2 runs each in the 1st inning… In the 1st inning, Wil Stewart had an RBI triple and Zach Fortman and RBI Single… Clinton went ahead with a single run in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single by Wilson Wages…  Amelia then scored the winning runs in the 5th… The loss in the double elimination tournament dropped Clinton into the losers bracket where they next faced another Virginia team Dinwiddie National
  • Sunday: Clinton 17 – Dinwiddie 7… On Sunday, Clinton bounced back as they took a 17-7 win over Dinwiddie…. Later in the day Clinton played again and got a second chance at the Amelia team that defeated them on Saturday… It was an opportunity they did not waste as they took a 13-5 win over Amelia eliminating them from tournament action… I do not have any scoring details at this time on either game but if I get them I’ll pass them on…  Coach Matt Stewart comment after yesterday’s action he was proud of the way they rebounded with solid defense and timely hitting…  Clinton will face Greenbrier, TN today at 6:00 pm and with a win will play again at 8:00 pm… Coach Stewart informed me that he believes the games are streamed live at  Think I’ll check that out today.

Braves: The Braves hosted the NL Central leading St. Louis Cardinals this weekend down at Turner Field in what many said would be a measure of how good the Braves are.

  • Friday; Braves 4 – Cards 1… In the series opener on Friday night, Braves pitcher Mike Minor went 7 strong innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5 and walking none as the Braves took a 4-1 win over the Cardinals… Minor also had an RBI single to help his own cause… Jason Heyward had a solo homerun in the 5th inning for the Braves.
  • Saturday: Braves 2 – Cards 0…. For the second game in a row the Braves got great starting pitching this time from Julio Teheran as they took a 2-0 win over the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon… Teheran went 7 innings giving up only 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1… Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons 2-out bases loaded 2 RBI double in the 8th inning was the game winner for the Braves.
  • Sunday: Braves 5 – Cards 2… Yesterday the Braves completed the sweep of the Cardinals with a 5-2 win… Again the Braves got 6 solid innings out of starter Kris Medlen who gave the 2 earned runs on 8 hits… The Braves were led at the plate by Chris Johnson who went 3 for 4 scoring 3 times and Jason Heyward who had a solo homer… The Braves remain at home tonight as they start a 4-game series with the Colorado Rockies.

  • Saturday: Drive 4 – Claws 3… Saturday’s game was another 1-run affair but this time the Drive came out on top as they took a 4-3 win over the BlueClaws… The Drive broke open a scoreless game in the 7th inning scoring 3 runs in the innings and then holding on for the win.
  • Sunday: Claws 4 – Drive 3… Well make 4 1-run games in a row for the Drive and BlueClaws because on Sunday the Claws took another 4-3 win over the Drive… This loss was particularly hard for the drive to swallow because they led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 9th when alter 1 out, an error and 2 singles load the bases for the BlueClaws… The next BlueClaw batter grounded out but a run scores making it 3-2… The next batter tripled driving in the 2 winning runs with 2 outs… The Drive will stay on the road for a 3-game series in Greensboro, NC with the Grasshoppers.
