Clinton Coach Pitch Dixie Youth All-Star Team: Well the Clinton CP Dixie Youth All-Star Team continued play in the championship series up in Rockwood, TN last night so let’s recap how thing went.

  • Clinton 17 – Greenbrier, TN 9… Clinton and Greenbrier, TN locked up in an elimination game early last night… Clinton got on top and led 10-2 going into the bottom of the 4th inning when GB struck for 6 runs to make it 10-8 still in Clinton’s favor… Clinton responded with 7 runs in the top of the 5th to go up 17-8… GB was able to get 1 run in the bottom of the 5th but not enough as Clinton took the 17-9 win…. That left 3 teams in Clinton’s bracket (Clinton, Sumter Nat. (SC) and West Robinson) with 1 loss each. There was a draw for the bye into today’s game which was won by West Robinson… 30 minutes after the completion of the first game, Clinton was the home team and Sumter who they defeated in the state championship the visitor.
  • Sumter 8 – Clinton 7 (7) …  Facing elimination for the 2nd time last night and the 3rd time in the tournament, Clinton fell in a hard fought game 8-7 to Sumter in 7 innings… Sumter jumped on top scoring 4 in the top of the 1st inning and another in the 2nd to take a 5-0 lead…. Clinton got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd scoring 4 runs to cut Sumter’s lead to 1… Clinton had 3 hits and GB made 3 errors in the inning… Clinton took a 6-5 lead when they scored 2 runs in the in the 3rd to go up 6-5… Luke White had a 2 RBI single to plate the runs… Clinton added another run in the 5th on an RBI single by White… Sumter tied the game 7-7 with 2 runs in the top of the 6th and then held Clinton to force extra innings… Sumter then scored a single run in the 7th and retired Clinton in order in the bottom of the inning to take the win and eliminate Clinton…  Coach Matt Stewart after the game commented how he could not be prouder of the effort and determination showed by the team… Congratulations to Clinton on winning the state championship and making it to be one of last 6 teams in the championship.

Braves:

  • Braves 9 – Rockies 8 (10)…. The Braves started a series with the Colorado Rockies last night in Atlanta and it was a back & forth game but the Braves took a 9-8 win in 10 innings… Brandon Beachy got his first start since coming off Tommy-Johns elbow surgery last season and only made it through 3⅔ innings giving up 7 runs on 8 hits…. Atlanta’s Andrelton Simmons had a big night for the Braves going 3 for 5 on the night including the walk-off triple in the 10th inning that drove in the winning run… Earlier in the day, the Braves traded right-hand minor league pitcher Corey Ramus to the Angels for left-hand reliever Scott Downs in an effort to shore-up their bullpen… Downs arrived just before game time and believe it or not he picked up the win in the game pitching the last 1⅓… Talk about great timing.
