Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 8-1-13

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Thursday and it’s brought to you by the Laurens County Speedway… Well for the 3rd time in 4 weeks the weather caused the cancellation of racing at the LCS last Saturday night… There is a chance that they may extend the season an extra week because of the unusual number of rainouts this season… Weather permitting; there will be racing this Saturday night starting at 8:00 with gates opening at 6:00 out at the LCS where they do dirt right!
Braves:

  • Braves 9 – Rockies 0… The Braves made it 3 in-a-row over the Colorado Rockies last night at Turner Field as they trounced the Rockies 9-0… The Braves got another great effort by starter Mike Minor who went 7 innings giving up only 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking none… The Braves broke the game open in the 3rd inning scoring 7 runs in the inning… The Braves pounded out 15 hits with Freddie Freeman going 4-4 with 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs… Brian McCann only had 1 hit but it was a 3-run homer in the decisive 3rd inning his 15th homerun of the season… The Braves finish the series with the Rockies and the current home stand tonight with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 pm.
  • Braves pitcher Tim Hudson underwent season-ending surgery last Friday afternoon in Atlanta to repair his deltoid ligament and fractured fibula in his right ankle… This puts Hudson on the bench for at least 4 months before he can start baseball related rehab…Hudson suffered the gruesome injury in the eighth inning of a game with the Mets a week ago last night when Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr. stepped on the back of his right ankle as Hudson covered first base.

MLB:

  • Alex Rodriguez… Various sources say that the Yankees Alex Rodriguez might be banned for life from MLB due to not only is use of Performance enhancing Drugs but also his attempt to coerce at least one witness in to help cover it up during MLB’s investigation… The same reports say that his attorney is trying to negotiate a deal to avoid that.

Greenville Drive:

  • Grasshoppers 6 – Drive 5… The Greenville Drive finished their 3-game series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers last night in NC and the Hoppers took a 6-5 win thus avoiding a sweep by the Drive… The Hoppers led 6 – 0 at the end of 7 innings of play but the Drive attempted to come back scoring one run in the 8th and 4 in the 9th… The Drive are now 20-17 in the 2nd half of the season which puts them in 3rd place in the SAL Southern Division… Somewhat of a turnaround after finishing in last place in the 1st half of the season… The Drive return home to Flour Field tonight starting a week long home stand with Savannah being first team in…. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

  • Panthers: The Panthers will be practicing today at 3:00 pm at Gibbs Field
