Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Tuesday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… The Blue Hose football schedule this year includes 6 home games… The first is Sept. 7th as they host Brevard… The other home games are against Charlotte, VMI, Point University, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb…. Braves:

  • Phillies 5 – Braves 1…  The Philadelphia Phillies started a 3-game series with the Braves in Atlanta last night with a 5-1 win over the Bravos… The Phillies broke the game open in the 6th inning with a 3 run homer by Cody Asche off Braves starter Julio Teheran… Cole Hamels picked up the complete game win allowing the Braves only 6 hits with Jason Heyward and Chris Johnson of the Braves getting 2 hits each… Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 7:05 tonight at the Ted.

Greenville Drive:

  • The Drive had the night off last night and will start a 3 game series in Augusta tonight against the Green Jackets.

NFL:

  • Panthers 24 – Bears 17… Last Friday night the Panthers defeated the Chicago Bears 24-17 in the first preseason game for the Panthers… Greenwood native Josh Norman had an interception for the Panthers on a pass that was intended for former Gamecock Alshon Jeffery…   The Panthers next preseason game will be Thursday as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in a 7:30 contest.
  • Panthers Last Day in Spartanburg… Well if you are planning on going to see the Panthers at Wofford, today is the last day… They practice at 9:00 this morning then break camp and head back to Charlotte to finish out the preseason.
  • DeAndre Hopkins….  Former Clemson wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had a good night in Houston’s 27-13 win over Minnesota last Friday…  He had a nice 34 yard TD catch in the second period where he just went up and outhustled the defender… He wound up with 4 catches for 52 yards.

  • Clinton High will host the Bears of BHP today at 6:00
  • Laurens High will be on the road to Union for a multi-team scrimmage today at 6:00.
  • The Clinton High Class of 1978 will be having their 35th class reunion at the Game Scrimmage on Friday August 16th.  Plans are to meet at the game at 7:00 and then go out to eat together afterwards.

  • And finally, its only 17 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.

Laurens YMCA:

  • Fall Soccer… Fall soccer registration is now open for youth 3-15 at the Laurens YMCA… Practice will begin Sept. 1st with games starting Sept. 9thRegistration will end on August 26th… For more information call the Y at 984-26-21 or see a posting in the Between the Lines section at wlbg.com
  • Self Defense Academy… The Laurens YMCA is now registering participants for a Korean Martial Arts / Self Defense Academy which will start September 9th… It is open to individuals ages 6 and up. City of Laurens Parks & Recreation:

  • Fall Baseball…  The City of Laurens Parks & Recreation Department is now registering youth from ages 6-12 for fall baseball… There will be teams in Coach Pitch, Player Pitch and Advanced League divisions… The deadline for registration is August 24th and the cost is $25… Skill evaluation will be Monday August 26th and the season will start September 9th… Registration is done at the Parks and Recreation office at the Little River Park during normal business hours.
