Local sports:

  • Girls Tennis: CHS 7 – Chester 0… I need to do a little catching up on girls tennis at CHS… On Tuesday the Lady Red Devils hosted the Lady Cyclones of Chester… Good news for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a 7-0 win…  Posting wins in singes action were Mason Paige Gambrell, Gracie Waldron, Sela Vaughn, Sommer Lawton and Allison Oxner… Gambrell an Waldron teamed up to take a win as the #1 doubles team while the #2 doubles team composed of Elizabeth Jones and Rachel Lloyd also posted a win.

  • Girls Golf…   Now catching up with Girls Golf at LDHS…. On Tuesday the Lady Raiders were defeated by the Lady Rams of Hillcrest out at Lakeside CC…. The final score was Hillcrest 186 and Laurens 216. The team score for Laurens was the second lowest of the season….  Makayla Rykard led the Raiders with a personal best score of 49….  Sydne Wetmore of Hillcrest was the match medalist with a 45. We travel to Anderson on Thursday to face TL Hanna.

Middle School Athletics

  • LMS 20 – BSW 0… Well there was one middle school football game yesterday and in the game, LMS defeated BSW 20-0… The wet field did create some havoc as both teams had fumbles that they both lost and recovered… It also affected the passing game making the ball difficult to grasp… The LMS Tigers got n the board with 3:12 left to play in the first half on a 5 yard run by Carado Ray and Dre Mills added the 2-point PAT to make it 8-0… It was a 55 yard drive in 9 plays…. On their initial possession of the second half, BSW fumbled at their own 25 yard line… Miles Latimore fell on the ball giving Laurens possession at the BSW 25 yard line…. Five plays later Tyresse Moses carried it in from 13 yards out… The PAT failed so Lauren led 14-0 with 3:58 left in the third quarter..  The Wildcats then drove deep into Tiger territory only to have a pass picked off in the endzone for a touchback ending the threat….. On the second play from scrimmage after the turnover, Moses connected with Isaiah Bennett on a 78 yard scoring strike… The 2-point PAT was good making it 20-0 with 8 seconds left in the third period… There were no further scoring threats in the game.
