Road Reopened After Car/School Bus Wreck

Willard Road was reopened for traffic shortly before Noon today, but Clinton Public Safety and the South Carolina Highway Patrol were continuing their investigation into a head-on collision between a car and a school bus that happened around 7:40. Clinton Public Safety Department Director Robin Morse said that none of the Clinton High students on the bus were seriously injured, but some were treated for minor injuries. The School Bus driver was taken to the Laurens County Hospital for treatment of injuries. The driver of the car was airlifted to the Greenville Memorial Trauma Unit. At midday, he was in the Intensive Care Unit listed in critical condition.

Chief Morse said that while the investigation continues, it appears that the car being driven by the now critically injured man crossed over the center line and collided head-on with the bus. A MAIT team from the highway patrol was measuring evidence at the scene to determine speed and other details of the crash. Just before noon today, the section of Willard Road between Highway 56 and North Adair was re-opened for traffic.
