Clinton Charges from Early Morning Traffic Stop

 A man wanted for a Burglary in McCormick County was arrested in Clinton this morning. Clinton Public Safety Officer Christopher Harris was running stationary radar at Bishop Tires on South Broad at 1:14 this morning and observed a truck pass without a license plate. He made a traffic stop on South Broad at Belmont Stakes. The driver reportedly stated the license plate had been stolen in Kentucky. A check on the driver reportedly indicated there was a warrant for his arrest from McCormick. While holding the driver for confirmation of the warrant, further investigation of the vehicle reportedly located drug paraphernalia and marijuana cigarettes in the truck. 20-year-old Richard Todd Sessum Jr. of 4807 Doe Run, Evans, Georgia and 21-year-old Clayton Patrick Smith of 992 Windmill Lane, Evans, Georgia were arrested on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Simple Possession of Marijuana.

 Clayton Patrick Smith is also being held for McCormick County, where he is wanted for a 3rd Degree Burglary charge. He’s accused of breaking into a building at a boat club on Sturkey Ferry Road on August 22nd, 2013.

 Both were being held in Clinton City Jail this morning.
