A theft of thousands of dollars worth of diesel fuel was reported to Clinton Public Safety yesterday morning. An officer was dispatched to a BP Station on Highway 72 East at 8:36 am, where a check of fuel inventory indicated 1,686 gallons of fuel were missing. Automatic inventory control noted the fuel went missing between 2 and 6:30 yesterday morning. A check of video surveillance during that time showed a white tanker truck drive up to an in-ground fuel access point, and of someone stepping from the truck’s passenger side. The truck left a short time later. At $3.88 a gallon, value of the stolen fuel was $6,542.
