Apparent Revenge Attack

   An apparent revenge attack has led to the arrest of a Clinton man. Laurens County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Carter was responding to an assault on Hwy 76 East, Clinton at 9:36 Friday morning when he was advised that the victm had  been struck in the face with a bat. Sgt. Carter arrived and talked with the victim, a 23-year-old man who was one of the people recently arrested from an alleged Mob Assault. A Sheriff’s report indicates that the victim had been struck in the head by the fist of the alleged victim while an older family member struck the man in the head with an orange club-style stick. The two then departed.

  Deputies reportedly obtained warrants for the Friday morning assault and arrested one of the two subjects. 41-year-old Tony Ray Sherfield of 19985 Highway 72 East, Clinton was charged with Assault and Battery by a Mob 2nd Degree. He was released from the Johnson Detention Center Saturday on posting a $25,000 surety bond.

  The younger alleged assailant in Friday morning’s incident was not arrested as of earlier this morning.
