Arrest After Traffic Stop

Laurens County Deputy Jeremy McMahan was on patrol on Highway 221 last night when he reportedly observed a black Mitsubishi pick-up without a working tag light. He initiated a traffic stop with blue lights. The deputy reported observed the smell of marijuana on approaching the vehicle and asked for consent to search for anything illegal. That search reportedly located a white hydrocodone pill that the man didn’t have a prescription for, saying a relative had given it to him.

28-year-old Fredrick Lamar “Fred” Valentine of 314 Southview Drive, Laurens was arrested and placed in the Johnson Detention Center just before midnight last night. A warrant was to be sought today to charge him with Illegal Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.
