A Cross Hill man has been charged with Attempted Murder for allegedly shooting another man, and with Kidnapping for allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint during the late Sunday afternoon incident at his residence near Cane Creek.
The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 11939 Highway 72 West at 5:26 Sunday afternoon. Deputies reported arriving to find 39-year-old Michael Jerome Davis of 12431 Highway 72 West, Cross Hill had been shot in the buttocks. Davis was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Deputies arrested a resident of the apparent incident location and a woman he had allegedly Kidnapped during the incident.
48-year-old Bruce Alan Smith of 11939 Highway 72 West, Cross Hill has been charged with Attempted Murder, accused of shooting Michael Davis in an attempt to kill him. He is also accused of Pointing and Presenting a Firearm at 34-year-old Brandy Holbert Deyton of 3731 Puckett Ferry Road, Mountville. He’s also charged with Kidnapping her. Other charges included Possession of a Weapon During Commission of a Violent Crime and Malicious Damage. Lt. Bryant Cheek states that Smith shot a 45-caliber handgun at a 2006 Ford Mustang belonging to Brandy Deyton, doing over $2,000 in damage.
Meanwhile, Deputies also arrested Ms. Deyton, charging her with Possession of Methamphetamine. She was released from the Johnson Detention Center yesterday on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
Bond was denied on all charges yesterday for Bruce Alan Smith, and he remained in the county detention center this morning.
