County Council last night gave final approval of Ordinance 758 to resume the previous split of a one-mill tax levy for higher education in the County. With last nights’ action the one mill will be again split with Piedmont Technical College getting 90% of the revenue and USC Union at Laurens getting 10%. The original ordinance specified the money was for operation of the Laurens County Higher Education Center. That has been deleted due to USC Union now being in the process of moving its Laurens County operations from the Higher Ed Center to the Oaks Center on North Harper in Laurens. The Campus Dean last night announced the new USC Union at Laurens center will open in January. She added there are plans to hire a recruiter to work at the facility.
