A new drug charge and a bench warrant from another case were both served yesterday on a man who was apprehended by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the day. Cpl Nick Moye and Deputy Charles Nations were dispatched to West Calhoun Street, Joanna at 12:02 am yesterday on a call from a resident reporting a man had been observed entering a vacant house. No charges were initially served on the man’s entry into the house, but that remained under investigation this morning. Meanwhile, the man was served with a warrant for alleged drug activity in Joanna and with a Bench Warrant.
37-year-old John Carl Preston of 404 Hayes Crossing Road, Gilbert was charged with Distribution of Methamphetamine from this past September. Lt. Robert Wilkie states that on September 5th John Preston did distribute methamphetamine on Tillman Circle, Joanna.
Preston was also served with a Bench Warrant from Laurens County General Sessions Criminal Court requiring him to be held for the court based on his failure to appear for a docket appearance on October 11th on a charge of Illegal Possession of a Schedule II Drug.
A cash or surety bond was set at $25,000 bond on the new charge. John Carl Preston remained in the JDC this morning.
