Sports Report for Friday, 11-29-2013

Local sports:

The PC men’s’ basketball team made a quick trip to Cancun, Mexico last Tuesday and Wednesday to appear in the Triple Crown Cancun Challenge… Unfortunately the Blue Hose dropped both games but in both they rallied after falling behind by double-digits early… On Tuesday they lost 45-67 to Bowling Green after getting the lead to within single digits in the second half… It was much the same story on Wednesday as they lost to Georgia Southern 66-76… The Blue Hose did get the lead down to 3 points but could get no closer… They will be back in action next Tuesday in Greensboro.

NFL: In case you were out shopping yesterday or did not stay up late last night, the NFL scores from yesterday were:

  • Detroit Lions 40 – Green Bay Packers 10: Detroit first win on Thanksgiving since 2003
  • Dallas 31 – Oakland 24: Three touchdowns by running back DeMarco Murray helped the Cowboys come back from a 14-point deficit to beat the Raiders.
  • Baltimore 22 – Pittsburg 20:  This was a very bruising game in which the Steelers scored all their point in the second half and the Ravens held on for the win.

College Notes: Lots of big games in College football tomorrow:

  • Furman (7-5) the Southern Conference Champion will travel to SC State (9-3) the MEAC Co-Football Champion in a first round FCS Championship Series game… Will be on ESPN3 at 1:00
  • Bethune-Cookman (10-2) at Coastal Carolina (10-2) … Will be on ESPN3 at 1:00
  • Top 25 FBS games of Note: #1 Alabama at #4 Auburn, #2 Florida State at Florida (Seminoles should skin the water lizards), #19 Texas A&M at #5 Missouri (big interest here for Gamecock fans- Go Aggies!),  # 22 UCLA at USC and of course
  • #6 Clemson at # 10 South Carolina… There is not much that I could add to all the hype that is going on around this game… 111th meeting between the 2 schools, Clemson holds a substantial lead in the overall series but Carolina has won the last 4, Arguably the 2 best quarterbacks that the 2 schools have ever had will be in control… Boyd has never beaten Carolina and Shaw has never lost a t home and Carolina has a 17 game winning streak at Williams Brice… First time both schools have been ranked in the top 10 when they meet and BCS bowl game implications are on the line in front of a national audience on ESPN2…. Oh well just another college football game on a typical Saturday in the state of South Carolina… Only thing I can add is Go Gamecocks!
