Local Sports Results

Laurens Academy: The Crusaders started off their post New Year schedule last Friday as all 4 teams hosted the Greenwood Christian School Hawks…

  • Var. Girls:  LA 30 – GCS 27… In girls’ varsity action, the Lady Crusaders took a 30-27 win over the Lady Hawks…. LA trailed 10-12 at the half and came back to take the win… Coach Laura Rockefeller stated it was not a pretty win but she still would take it… Taylor Williamson with 8 points and Kaitlyn Muir with 7 led the Lady Crusaders in scoring. Three Crusaders scored 5 points each… They were Abigale Taylor, Kayla Mitchell & Savannah Mitchell.
  • Var. Boys: LA 58 – GCS 31… The boys varsity team was also victorious as they led from start to finish and took a 58-31 win over the Hawks… The Crusaders led 17-2 at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back… Chase Brewington led the Crusaders with 21 points.
  • Middle School Results:  Girls: LA 51 – GCS 6….. Boys: LA 21 – GCS 18

 College Bowl Game Results:

  • Compass Bowl in Birmingham on Saturday, Vanderbilt (9-4) defeated Houston (8-5) 41-24
  • Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday, Missouri (12-2) defeated Oklahoma St. (10-3) 41-31
  • Orange Bowl on Friday, Clemson (11-2) defeated Ohio St. (12-2) 40-35… Congratulations are due to the Clemson Tigers for their 40-35 win over Ohio St. down in the Orange Bowl last Friday night in a pretty good game to watch for the fans… The Tiger defense stepped up and forced 4 turnovers to help overcome 2 interceptions thrown by Tajh Boyd who otherwise had a great game rushing for 127 yards with 1 TD and completing 31 of 40 pass attempts for 378 yards with 5 of the completions being TDs … Sammy Watkins caught 16 of Boyd’s passes for 227 yards and 2 TDs… Both had great nights and in my humble opinion could have been co-mvps but Watkins got the nod…. Boyd finishes his career at Clemson and holds several school and ACC records as he leaves… As stated by many pundits & Clemson faithful after the game, he will be the QB that all future QBs at Clemson are compared to… I tend to agree and there is one part of his records that stands out to me…. He never beat South Carolina!
