A football game billed as “The Super Bowl of Laurens County” did not happen as planned Saturday. The game pitted the Sheriff’s Office against Laurens County EMS in a flag-football game to raise funds for the John Love Foundation. This Laurens County organization seeks to provide counseling services for people considering suicide and provides a support group for people who have lost family and friends to suicide. Sheriff Ricky Chastain said the game was postponed due to pressing work demands for deputies this weekend. These included an ongoing search for the missing 82-year-old Billy Joe Garrett of Princeton and the ongoing investigation into the murder of 47-year-old Sammie Leake and his niece, 24-year-old Nikesha James at Ms. James’ residence in Cross Hill Friday morning. The game between the Sheriff’s Office and EMS is to be rescheduled at a future date.
