Not My DVD Player, Playa’

Clinton Public Safety was investigating a home burglary on Woodrow Street that was discovered Tuesday night. Between 8pmS unday and9:15 Tuesday night someone took a DVD player from the victim’s bedroom.  The victim stated that the bedroom door stayed locked.

 

You Can’t Sell Beer to a Minor in South Carolinor

Clinton Public Safety Officer Thomas Peay reported observing a male coming from the Shell Gas Station at South Broad and Jacobs Highway at 9:33 Tuesday night carrying two bags containing beer. Officer Peay noted that The subject didn’t seem old enough to have beer, and followed a Ford pickup the subject got in as it traveled down Broad. After observing the subject change lanes without using a turn signal, the officer made a traffic stop. On checking the drivers’ license, he found the subject was under age 21. Officer Peay checked and found there were no occupants in the vehicle 21 or older. The subject turned over the beer from the Shell station that was in the back of the truck. The young man indicated he had purchased the beer without using a fake ID. The youth driving the pickup gave a witness statement about the beer purchase. The officer then went to the store and talked with the clerk, 20-year-old Vaibhav R. Patel of 18 19th Street, Greer. Mr. Patel was issued a citation charging him with Sale of  Beer to a Person Under Age 21. Patel was advised on his court date and officers cleared the scene.

Never “Lien” On Your Laptop

Laurens City Police have served additional charges on a man who was already in jail for a child support charge. 40-year-old Billy Wayne “Allen” Tucker of 508 Wofford Street, Greenwood was served Tuesday with the charge of Willful Sale of Property on Lien. The warrant states that on August 3rd Billy Tucker pawned a Dell laptop at Rich’s Pawn Shop which still had a lien against it.

   Tucker was arrested August 13th on a Family Court Bench Warrant, in which Judge Bridges found Tucker to be $1,491 behind on child support payments. In lieu of paying that money and court fees, he sentenced Mr. Tucker to six months in the Johnson Detention Center. Billy Wayne Tucker had a court appearance pending yesterday on the new charge from the City of Laurens

A Tale of Two Women

Clinton Public Safety investigated a harassment case that reportedly occurred between 1 and1:42 Tuesday afternoon on Summeral Street.  One woman said that another woman was calling her unwanted names out loud. She said she didn’t want any trouble, but for the other woman to just leave her alone. When officers talked with the  other woman, she stated she had just returned home from Florida, and that the complainant was upset because she had signed a warrant for the complaintant’s arrest. Both women agreed to stay away from each other until the complaintant’s court date.

 

EMS Report

209 for the week from Saturday, January 7th, through Friday, January 13th the Laurens County Emergency Medical Services responded to 209 calls. According to Michael Sullivan the Education Coordinator for the Laurens CountyEMS there were a total of 123 patients transported, 88 of whom went to the Laurens County Hospital, while the remainder went to other facilities in the area. There were also 32 patients treated or evaluated by the Laurens CountyEMS who were not transported.

Never Made It to the Register

A woman was arrested for allegedly taking money from a customer that was intended for a purchase and placing it in her pocket on the 5th of this month at a business on W Carolina Ave, in Clinton. 23 year old Christina Coyle of 711 N Broad St, Clinton was arrested by the Clinton Department of Public Safety on a warrant for Petit Larceny. She was released from the Clinton City Jail on a $500 pr bond.

Pocket Money

A Gray Court resident reported that someone stole money out of his pockets. He stated to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office that between 7 and 10 last night when he was sleeping someone stole $25 from his pants pockets. He reported that there was only one person in the room with him, and when he asked her if she took the money she stated no. However he stated that he believes that she was the one to take the money. This incident will remain active with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

 

River Street Park & Habitat Home Discussed

Laurens City Council last night approved spending up to $90,000 to cover the city’s share of a revitalization of the River Street Park. The Park is part of the project of a Community Development Block Grant announced in November 2010 by then Governor Mark Sanford. That half-million-dollar project has established an after-school program for youth-at-risk, and is seeking to make physical improvements to the Jersey neighborhood of Laurens. The project is also seeking to improve the River Street Park, adding a picnic shelter and installing live cameras to monitor facilities there.

    Laurens City Special Projects Director Tommy Burns went over plans for the park revitalization with City Council last night. He noted areas the city will be responsible for – such as repaving the parking lot, the basketball court, installing new basketball goals, and adding a retaining wall as the site is better prepared to handle rain run-off. New handicapped sidewalks and bathroom facilities are also being added.

   The funds to be contributed locally will come from Hospitality tax revenues generated in the City.

    Laurens City Council last night also approved donating a lot on Mill Street to Habitat for Humanity, based on the local group making a request for the property. Turning onto Mill Street from Fleming, the lot is the third on the right as you drive toward Main Street. A house that Laurens High construction classes built at the school over this school year would be moved to the Mill Street lot as its permanent home.

Assault Accusations

A Watson St, resident was accused of assaulting someone at or near her residence around 10 last night. She was charged by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office on a citation for Criminal Domestic Violence. 32 year old Amanda Reid Blakley of 384 Watson St, Laurens remained in the Johnson Detention Center earlier this morning awaiting a bond hearing.

Stealing Plates Can Lead to Making Them

A man was arrested for allegedly taking a license plate from a person on Sunday from a location in Laurens County. He was charged by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for Petit Larceny. 32 year old Clifford Paul Arlis Lewis also known as Cliff of 32 Pamela Dr, Waterloo was released from the Johnson Detention Center on a $650 pr bond.
