  • The boys tennis team will open playoff action today as they host Fort Mill at 5:00.. Fort Mill comes in as the runner-up in Region 4 while Clinton comes in as Region 3 champion.   • The Clinton baseball team traveled over to Rock Hill to take on South Pointe in an elimination game in the District IV playoff action and the news is not good for Red Devil fans as South Pointe took a 1-0 win thus eliminating Clinton from the playoffs… Morgan Summers took the loss giving up the 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 0..   • The boys soccer team at CHS won again yesterday as they defeated Mid Carolina by a score of 3-2 in Clinton.. Anthony Henley had 2 goals for the Red Devils and A.B.   • On Friday the Clinton boys’ soccer team hosted a strong Thomas Sumter Academy..  The Red Devils took 10 shots on goal but failed to find the back of the net with any of them as Thomas Sumter found net with 3 of their 12 shots to take a 3-0 win over Clinton… Truett Burns did manage to make 7 saves on goal..  Clinton’s record now stands at 4-9-0 while Thomas Sumter’s went to 17-2-1. Comp. presents the 13th Annual PC Scotsman Club Invitational Golf Tournament on Monday May 14th at Musgrove Mill Golf Club outside Clinton. It’s a Captain’s Choice Tournament with skills challenges like Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Prizes for first, second, third and last place teams & a Chance to win a new car. CHS:

  • Softball team traveled to Chapman and came up on the short end of a 4-2 score but not due to a lack of effort. Clinton played great defense as the Panthers stranded 9 base runners… Clinton managed to score their 2 runs without a hit… The region champions Panthers were held to just 4 runs of Jessica Wood.
  • CHS will host Chapman @ 6:00.. It will be Senior Night and the Red Devils need to win and hope that Greer beats Union. This would give Clinton the region championship.. Come out and support the Red Devils in their last regular season home game.. If you can’t make it, you can catch all the action on Sports radio 1410 WPCC starting about 5:45. And while you are it, root for Greer also

LDHS:

  • The boys’ tennis team picked up another win last night as they defeated Wren 4-3 at Laurens City Park.. Kento Hasanuma and Chris Mather picked up singles wins.. Laurens then had to rely on its doubles teams to win the match and they did just that as both picked up victories..  Hasanuma and Mather teamed up to take a win while Chandler Fleck and Coleman Davis teamed up to pick up the deciding win..  Check out the tennis team posting at wlbg.com for a complete match summary..The team’s record now stands at 7-7 overall and 7-4 in region play.. They will finish their season Monday as they host a tough TL Hannah team.
  • In softball action, the Lady Raider softball team traveled to Woodmont and it took them 8 innings to do it but they came home with a 21-17 win over the Lady Wildcats… In the 8th inning, Michaela Smith had a 2 run homer and Shelby Wagner a 2 run scoring double to power the Raiders past the Wildcats… Elizabeth Aylesworth picked up the win pitching 7 innings with Jordan Henderson finishing the game… Henderson also went 4 for 6 at the plate with a tri[le and 4 RBIs.. Michaela Smith went 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs and the 2 run homer.. I’ll try to have more stats later today and then link them to the sports report at wlbg.com..  The Lady Raiders finish their region schedule tonight on the road in a JV-Varsity doubleheader at Greenwood.
  • The Laurens Raiders will have their final regular season home game on Friday as they face Greenwood in a JV – Varsity doubleheader starting at 5:00..  Couple of things going on here.. Prior to the JV game they will honor Mr. Truman Owens a longtime sports official in Clinton as he is retiring after 50 years at the end of this season.. He will be inducted into the National federation of High Schools Hall of fame later this summer… Also the seniors will be honored before the varsity game which should be about 7:00 or a little after… Finally it will be a big night because with a win over Greenwood, the varsity team can capture region championship and home field advantage in the playoffs.. Please plan on coming out and supporting the Raiders.

 Odds & Ends:

  • Well let’s catch up with action from last Sat night at the Laurens County Speedway:
    • Super Late Model:  Billy Rushton finished 1st in the main event after starting in the back.. Frankie
      Coates and Mike Measamer, who finished second and third,
    • Limited:  Kevin Baker took the checkered flag with David Todd & Shun Thomas finishing next.
    • Hobby: Phillip Wilson picked the win turning back Dan Lawson and dusty Evans
    • Super Stock: J.R. baker finished 1st pulling away from Brian Nelson & Corey Winn who rounded out the top 3.
    • Dwarf:  Isaac Lothridge took his 2nd victory in a row… Don Beard finished 2nd and Ralph Wren 3rd.
    • Front-Wheel Drive: Bill Baker also took his 2nd straight win of the season with Travis Jamieson & Garrett Sloan taking the next 2 spots.
  • And if you did not stay up late last night, the Atlanta Braves remain hot with the bats as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 10-2 out in Arizona.
