Sports Report for Thursday, 3-6-2014

Local Sports Results:

CHS:

  • BB: CHS 4 – DHS 1… The Clinton baseball team had their game with Dreher moved up to yesterday to avoid the rain that is forecasted for today and good news as the Red Devils took a 4-1 win over the Blue Devils… The game was tied 1-1 going into the top of the 7th inning when Clinton put 3 runs on the board and held Dreher scoreless in their half of the 7th to take the win… In the decisive 7th inning, Peyton Spangler had a sacrifice bunt to score a run while Matt Craven & O’Kevius Conway both had singles to drive in runs… Craven & Conway each had 2 hits to account for 4 of Clinton’s 6 hits… Bradley Templeton picked up the complete game win giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 and walking 3…. Coach Lee Atkinson said afterwards” We didn’t look great at the plate tonight, but the bottom line is: we got the job done!”… Click on the following for more game stats: 14-3-5_BB_CHS-Dreher The Red Devils are supposed to finish their participation in the Carolina Ale House Classic on Saturday with opponent, time and location to be announced by Friday.

 

College Notes:

Basketball

  • Radford 78 – PC 73… The Presbyterian College men’s basketball team outscored the Radford Highlanders 19-5, in the final five and a half minutes to cut a 15-point game to just one, but the rally fell just short as Radford used clutch free throw shooting to take the five-point, 78-73 yesterday afternoon in the opening game of the Big South Tournament in Conway… Jordan Downing scored 32 points to lead the Blue Hose in scoring and this was the 4th time this season he scored 30 or more… The Blue Hose end their season with a 6-26 record while Radford goes to 21-11 and will Play #2 seed UNC Ashville at 2:00 pm tomorrow…. By the way the Lady Blue Hose basketball team will be back in action today as they take on the #2 seeded Lady Flames of Liberty at 6:00 pm tonight.

Baseball

  • Carolina 4 – Stetson 1… Weber Pike’s two-out two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a four-run frame as top ranked South Carolina rallied for a 4-2 victory over Stetson on yesterday afternoon at Carolina Stadium…  The #1 ranked Gamecocks improve to 12-0 on the on the season…. The Gamecocks will host Brown in a 3 game series this weekend starting at 7 pm on Friday.
  • Baseball Rankings: In case you missed it earlier in the week, the 12-0 Gamecocks have climbed all the way to the #1 spot in 2 of the 4 major college baseball polls… In the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, Florida State, Virginia, Vanderbilt & Cal State Fullerton round out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Oregon State, LSU, NC State, Oregon & Mississippi State… Clemson comes in as high 16 in one poll but 20 or below in others

Sports Report for Wednesday, 3-5-2014

 Local Sports Results:

CHS:

  • Baseball: CHS 12 – Irmo 0… The Red Devil varsity baseball team was back in action yesterday down in Irmo taking on the Yellow Jackets… Good news as the team picked up its first win of the season making their record 1-1 as they defeated Irmo 12-0… O’Kevius Conway picked up the complete game win giving up only 1 hit while striking out 6 and walking 3… The Red Devils got their 12 runs on 9 hits and 9 walks issued by Irmo pitchers…. Mathew Craven had 3 of the Red Devil hits and Kendal Pitts had a solo homer… Click on the following for more game stats: 14-3-4_BB_CHS-Irmo    The Red Devils are scheduled to be back in action Thursday at 6:00 pm as they travel to Columbia to take on the Dreher Blue Devils
  • JV Baseball: CHS 12 – Dixie 1… The CHS JV baseball team continues to roll in the Lakelands JV Tournament as they picked up a 12-1 win over Dixie in Greenwood yesterday… Brayden Gibbs picked up the win behind a 12 hit attack by the Red Devils… The team advances to the championship game on Thursday with the opponent and time to be determined later.

 

LDHS:

  • Baseball: LDHS 9 – EHS 2… The Laurens Raider baseball team picked up its 3rd win of the season against no loses as they defeated the Emerald Vikings last night at Ed Prescott Field… The Vikings led 2-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning when Laurens struck for 2 runs to tie the game… Laurens took the lead for good in the 4th inning when Hammer Walker stroked a double into left-center field to drive in 2 of the 3 runs scored in the inning… Laurens scored 4 runs in the 6th with Walker again collecting the big hit a triple to drive in 2 runs… Trae Coleman was the only other Raider to collect 2 hits on the night and Tanner Adair got the start and picked up the win pitching 4 innings before Kevin Dean finished the game in relief… Click on the following for more game stats: 14-3-4_LDHSB-Emer_stats   Click on the following for the game scorecard: 14-3-4_L-BB–Emerald_scorecard    Laurens will play again Thursday against an opponent at a  time and location to be announced.

College Notes:

  • PC 54 – Longwood 40… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team opened Big South Tournament play yesterday afternoon with a 54-40 win over Longwood down in Conway… PC closed the game on an 18-4 run to break a 36-36 tie with 7:19 to go en route to the victory… Keyonna Allen had 16 points and Aianna Long had 13 to pace the PC offense… The # 7 seeded Lady Blue Hose now face the #2 seeded Lady Flames of Liberty at 6:00 pm tomorrow night.
  • USC 7 – Stetson 1… The top ranked Univ. of SC Gamecocks ran their record to 11-0 yesterday as they defeated Stetson 7-1… Click on the following for more game information: 3-4-14 Gamecock Baseball Info
  • Western Carolina 18 –Clemson 10… The Clemson Tiger baseball team traveled to Western Carolina to take on the Catamounts yesterday and in a real “pitching duel” the Tigers came up on the short end of an 18-10 score… The Catamounts have now won 16 consecutive home games the longest home winning streak in the nation… Click on the following for more Game Information: 3-4-14 Tiger Baseball Info.

Sports Report for Tuesday, 3-4-2014

 

Weather Postponements:  Well the rainy weather caused several contest to be postponed yesterday.

 

CHS:  The lacrosse team’s match with St. Joe was forced to be postponed and at this time I do not know the date of the make-up…. The baseball team also had to cancel yesterday and they will make up their game with Irmo today at Irmo… First pitch is scheduled for 5:30.

 

LDHS: The Raider baseball team suffered the same fate and their game with Emerald will be played at Ed Prescott Field today at 5:00 pm.

 

Local Sports Results:

 LDHS:

  • Wrestling: The Laurens Raider wrestling team had 2 representatives at the state Tournament in Anderson last weekend… Austin (Spanky) Crocker competed in the 195 pound weight class and Ryan Hughes in the 182 pound weight class… Crocker last his first mach to the eventual state champion from Cane Bay but rebounded to take his second match 8-3 before losing his third match 5-3… Ryan Hughes finished 3rd winning his 1st match but lost his second to the eventual state champ by a score of 3-1 in overtime… He then won the next 2 matches to place 3rd… The loss was only his second of the season… Congratulations to Austin, Ryan and Coach Sheffield on a great season. 

    Laurens Academy:

  • CAMB 58 – LA 47…  The Crusader boys’ basketball team took on the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach in the SCISA Class A Championship Game Saturday down in Sumter… The same 2 teams faced off last season in the championship game with CAMB taking the win… Unfortunately history repeated itself as the CAMB took a 58-47 win leaving the Crusaders to be the bridesmaid for the 2nd year in a row…. The Crusaders led 13-11 at the end of the 1st quarter but trailed 19-29 at the half… The Crusaders battled back to get within 4 at the end of the 3rd quarter but still trailed 34-36 going into the final period before losing 58-47… Chase Brewington and Matthew Urwick had 16 points to lead the Crusaders’ offense… Samuel Moore added 8, Ryan Holmes 4 and both Ryan Sneed and Robert Williams had 2 points each… Brewington and Urwick were selected to the State All-Tournament team… The Crusaders finish the season with an overall record of 26-6… Congratulations to the Crusaders on a great season!!
  • SCISA All-Star Teams…  Congratulations go out today to Chase Brewington, Matthew Urwick, Kayla Mitchell and Coach Travis Plowden at Laurens Academy… Brewington and Urwick have been named to the SCISA Boys All-Star Team while Mitchell was named to the girls’… Coach Travis Plowden was also named as the Head Coach of the SCISA team… The all-star teams will compete against a similar all-star team from Georgia… Those contests will take place on March 15th in Macon, Georgia…. Again congratulations to Coach Plowden and these fine young athletes! 

    College Notes:

Sports Report for Monday, 3-3-2014

Local Sports Results: Well there was a fair amount of baseball and softball action as both the Clinton baseball and softball teams opened their season in tournament action as well as the LDHS baseball team.

 CHS:

Softball: The Lady Red Devils were in action on Friday and Saturday in the Snow Ball Classic at Heritage Park in Simpsonville:

  • Friday: PHS 4 – CHS 0…The Lady Red Devils took on the Lady Mustangs of Palmetto were shut down by their pitcher as Palmetto took a 4-0 win…  They only mustered one hit and struck out 10 times… Jessica Wood pitched 4 innings giving up 7 hits and allowing 4 runs
  • Sat. -1: CHS 10 – CF 0… Saturday’s first game was against Calhoun Falls and Clinton faired much better winning 10-0 as Kayleigh Pitts threw a no-hitter…  The Lady Devils had 11 hits with Allison Oxner and Mason Paige Gambrell leading the way with 2 hits each.
  • Sat.-2: DHS 9 – CHS 4…  The 2nd game on Saturday was against 4-A Dorman and the Lady Cavaliers took a 9-4 win…   Molly Scarborough led the way with 2 hits, but defensively Clinton had 5 errors leading to half of Dorman’s runs.
  • Sat.-3: CHS 7 – SSCA 3… The Lady Red Devils rebounded in game 3 on Saturday and took a 7-3 win over Southside Christian Academy…  Jessica Wood pitched a strong game giving up 2 hits while striking out 6…   Offensively Clinton was led by freshman Kalen Richardson who hit a pinch-hit 3 run homer to take the lead and seal the win.
  • Sat-4: WHS 5 – CHS 1… The final game on Sat. was against another 4-A team the Lady Generals of Wade Hampton.. In that game the Lady Devils came up on the short end of a 5-1 score…  Jessica Wood only gave up 6 hits over 5 innings with 2 earned runs but again errors hurt the Lady Devils… Offensively Clinton was led by Allison Oxner who went 3 for 3 and Brittany Wright who went 2 for 2 with a walk.

Baseball: The Red Devil baseball team traveled to Irmo on Saturday to take on the Aiken Green Hornets as part of the Carolina Ale House Classic

  • AHS 9 – CHS 4 …. The Red Devils took a 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning and led 3-2 going into the 6th inning when they gave up 6 runs and eventually lost 9-4 to the Hornets… Peyton Spangler, Landon Allison, Kendal Pitts & Josh Simmons all had 2 for the Red Devils… Trey Childress had a solo homer for the Red Devils… Click on the following for more game stats: 14-3-1_CHS-Aiken    The Red Devils will be back in action this evening as they take on Irmo at Irmo with first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 6:00 pm.

 

 LDHS:

Baseball: The Raider varsity baseball team opened their season on Friday & Saturday as they started their participation in the Battle of the Piedmont Tournament.

  • Saturday: LDHS 13 – PHS 2… On Saturday the Raiders faced off against the Patriots of Powdersville High and again were won but this time by a score of 13-2 in 6 innings… The Raiders led 4-0 going into the 4th inning when they put 6 runs on the board to pretty much put the game away… Thomas Jones went 3 for 4 to lead the Raiders and Graydon Hamby had a homer to end the game.… Cody Smiley pitched 4⅔innings to pick up the win with Tanner Adair finishing the game in relief… Click on the following for more game stats: 2014-3-1_LDHSB-Pow_stats      Click on the following for the game scorecard: 2014-3-1_L-BB-13-Powder-2_scorecard   The Raiders will return to action in today as they host Emerald in the tournament at 5:00 pm

Sports Report for Friday, 2-28-2014

Local Sports Results:

CHS:  Yesterday a couple of CHS teams were involved in scrimmages and the coaches were kind enough to get the scores to me so I will pass them along to you.

  • Soccer: CHS 1 – Dixie 1
  • Tennis:  CHS 4 – Chapin 3

 

Laurens Academy: The boys’ basketball team was down in Sumter @ Wilson Hall taking on St. John’s in semi-final action of the SCISA State Basketball Tournament

  • LA 57 – St. John’s 55… The Crusaders trailed in this game by as much as 17 in the first half and were still down 9 with about 3.5 minutes to play in the game but they managed to come back and take a 57-55 win on a buzzer beating 40 ft. 3-point shot by Matthew Urwick….The Crusaders comeback in the second half was sparked by Chase Brewington who had 28 of his 38 points on the night in the second half… He tied the game 54-54 on a pair of free throws with about 15 seconds left in the game… moments later he was called for his 5th foul and St. Johns made 1 of 2 free throws to go up by 1 with 5 seconds left… After the inbound, Matthew Urwick found himself with the ball 40 feet or so from the basket and put up a shot that went through the net as time expired to give the Crusaders the 57-55 win… They will now play Myrtle Beach Christian at 12:30 tomorrow for the SCISA Class A Championship at the Sumter Civic Center…. Good Luck to the Crusaders!!!

 

College Notes:

  • SC 67 – Georgia 56… The South Carolina Lady Gamecocks secured the SEC regular season title last night in Columbia with a 67-56 win over the Lady Bulldogs of Georgia… The team is now 26-2 on the season and 14-1 in SEC play and will close out their regular season Sunday at Tennessee.
  • South Carolina vs. Clemson in Baseball…  Well today starts the annual 3-game series between the Tigers and the gamecocks on the baseball diamond… Carolina will host tonight at 7:00 and the game can be seen on Fox Sports South … The series will move to Flour Field in Greenville tomorrow at 2:00 and can be seen on ESPN3 & WMYA 40 … The final game will be Sunday at 4:00 and will take place at Doug Kingsmore Stadium… No TV as far as I know on Sunday, I don’t think Clemson has learned how to plug it up yet…. No just kidding, on Tigercast only.

Sports Report for Thursday, 2-27-2014

Local Sports Results: No local high school results from last night.

 College Notes:

 PC:

  • Coastal Carolina 70 – PC 51… The PC men’s basketball team traveled to Conway last night to take on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina… PC trailed by 5 at the half (23-28) but the Chanticleers pulled away in the 2nd half to take a 70-51 win… Markus Terry led the Blue Hose with 16 points… PC will travel to Winthrop Saturday for their final regular season game which will tipoff at 4:00 pm.
  • Men’s Tennis…  PC’s 11-2 men’s tennis team will host Longwood at 2:00 today… Go check them out… there will be free pizza!
  • Women’s Basketball:  Host Charleston Southern at 7:00 pm… It is the Lady Blue Hose final regular season home game and it is Senior Night as they honor Megan Schaaf, Karlee Taylor and Sherece Smith 10 minutes prior to tip-off.
  • Softball: host Moorehead State in a doubleheader at 2:00  & 4:00 pm

 

College Basketball Div. I Rankings

  • Men… Florida holds down the #1 spot this week with a record of 25-2… Wichita State is the only undefeated team in D-! with a 29-0 record comes in at #2… Arizona, Syracuse & Kansas round out the top 5… Duke, Louisville, Villanova, Creighton & St. Louis round out the top 10.
  • Women… Connecticut (28-0) & Notre Dame (27-0) come in at #1 & #2 respectively… Louisville, South Carolina & Stanford round out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Baylor, Duke, Penn State, Maryland & Tennessee…. By the way, the Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina (25-2) can clench the SEC regular-season title tonight at the Colonial Life Center… They will be hosting Georgia in a 7:00 pm contest which will be their last regular season home game… The 25-2 / 13-1 Gamecocks clinched a share of the SEC title with the win last Sunday against Florida…. Also the South Carolina men’s team lost to Auburn in Alabama last night 83-67.

Sports Report for Wednesday, 2-26-2014

Local Sports Results:

CHS:

  • Lacrosse: Hillcrest 16 – CHS 2… The Lady Red Devils hosted the Lady Rams of Hillcrest in lacrosse action… Unfortunately the Lady Rams took a 16-2 win over the Lady Red Devils… The team will be back in action Friday as they host Riverside at 5:30.
  • Basketball All-Region III, AAA Teams… Yesterday we found out that 3 Clinton Varsity basketball players made the Region III – AAA Teams… The Lady Red Devils had one player to make the all-region team and that was Maleaka Neal… Meanwhile Tay Cook and Shakiyl Smiley made the boys all-region team… Congratulations to these Red Devils.

 

LDHS:

  • The Lady Raider softball team has been busy with scrimmages… So far they have had 5 and won 3 of them… Yesterday they traveled to BHP and in the first game they lost to BHP 10-1… In the second game. They defeated Southside Christian 12-5… Their regular season will not start until the second week in March.

 

Laurens Academy:

  • Boys Basketball: LA 62 – Coastal Christian 39… The #1 ranked LA Crusader boys’ basketball team took a 62-39 win over Coastal Christian down in Orangeburg yesterday afternoon… The Crusaders had 3 players scoring in double digits… They were Matthew Urwick with 21 points, Chase Brewington with 14 and Samuel Moore with 13… The Crusaders now have a 24-5 record on the season…The Crusaders will now play St. John’s Christian in semi-final action tomorrow at Wilson Hall…. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

College Notes:

  • Baseball: Clemson 4 – PC 2… The #11 ranked Clemson Tigers took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning and went on to take a 4-2 win over the PC Blue Hose in baseball action at Doug Kingsmore Stadium yesterday afternoon… Five Clemson pitchers limited the Blue Hose to just 3 hits on the afternoon while 2 PC pitchers surrendered 8 hits…. Clemson goes to 6-1 on the season while PC falls to 4-3-1 on the season… Clemson will travel to Columbia on Friday night in the first game of a 3 game series this weekend with the Gamecocks while PC will travel to Auburn for a weekend series.
  • Basketball: Wake Forest 62 – Clemson 57… The Clemson Tigers traveled to Wake Forest last night in their last ACC road game of the season and led 30-23 at the half but the Deacons game back to take a 62-57 win…. The Tigers shooting percentage dropped from 50% in the first half to under 38% in the second while the Deacons did just the opposite.. Damarcus Harrison led the Tigers with 15 points… The Tigers are now 17-10 on the season and 8-7 in ACC play.

Sports Report for Tuesday, 2-25-2014

CHS:

  • Lacrosse: Dorman 20 – CHS 0… This was the first game of the season for the lacrosse team…. They will be back in action today as they host Hillcrest at 5:30

 

LDHS:

  • Adair Signs with Newberry… On Friday 2-21-2014 Laurens District 55 High School senior Tanner Adair signed a letter of 85-cropintent to further his education and play football at Newberry College next season… Tanner is the son of Susan and Kevin Adair… During his senior season he played defensive end and recorded 51 first hits, 23 assists, 3 sacks and 13 quarterback hurries… After the end of his senior season of football Tanner was also selected to the All-Region I-AAAA Team… He was also selected by the Laurens County Touchdown Club to the All-County Defensive Team and as their County Player of the Year… He also participated in the 2013 North-South All-Star game in Myrtle Beach on 12-14-13… Congratulations to Tanner

 

College Baseball Notes:

  • Div. I Rankings… well the new baseball rankings are out and the one that is the most favorable to both Carolina and Clemson is the Baseball America Poll…  That poll has Virginia #1, Florida State #2 and South Carolina #3… Oregon State and Cal State Fullerton round out the top 5… NC State, LSU, Vanderbilt, Oregon and Louisiana-Lafayette round out the top 10… Clemson just missed the top 10 coming in at #11.
  • Clemson… The Clemson Tigers baseball team improved its record to 5-1 on the season with a 3 game sweep of the Maine Black Bears over the weekend… The final scores in those 3 contests were 5-2, 13-3 and 10-2… Today the Tigers will host the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in a 4:00 pm contest… Pc comes into the game with a 4-2-1 record.
  • South Carolina…  The SC Gamecocks had good weekend as they swept Eastern Kentucky 4-0, 2-0 & 6-0 in a 3 game series… The Gamecocks are now 7-0 on the season and have allowed only 6 runs in those 7 games… The Gamecocks next foe will be Clemson this weekend in their annual 3 game series.
  • PC… The Blue Hose baseball team went 2 for 3 this weekend as they were up in Spartanburg taking on 3 different teams… On Friday they defeated USC Upstate 5-1… Then on Saturday they defeated Fordham 9-3… Sunday they faced off against Wofford and came up on the short end of a 8-7 final score…. PC is now 4-2-1 and will travel to Clemson today for a 4:00 pm contest.

Sports Report for Monday, 2-24-2014

 

LDHS:

  • Wrestling: LDHS hosted the AAAA Upper state Individual Qualifier this past Friday night and Saturday and good news as 2 of the Raider wrestlers qualified for the AAAA State Tournament this coming weekend at the Anderson Civic Center…. Austin “Spanky” Crocker finished 4th in his weight class and therefore qualified… He last in the semifinal round in the last few seconds when his opponent was able to pin him while he lead in points… Ryan Hughes finished 2nd in his weight class and will be the second Raider headed to Anderson next weekend… Ryan and his opponent were both undefeated on the year coming into the final match so someone had to suffer their first loss of the year and unfortunately it was Ryan in a very close match… Congratulations to both these young men…  Coach Rob Sheffield ask to thank all the volunteers, parents and businesses that helped to make this event a success.

 

Laurens Academy:

  • James Island 41 – LA 39… The LA Academy Lady Crusaders saw their season come to an end last Friday night in the SCISA State Tournament as they lost to James Island 41-39… The game was close all the way and the Lady Crusaders trailed 29-32 going into the last quarter…Taylor Williamson tied the game 39 all with about 20 seconds left with a free throw… A few seconds later a LA inbounds pass went awry and JI got the ball & scored… With less than 2 seconds left the Lady Crusaders had a shot at the basket which missed and were able to rebound the ball but time ran out before they could get a second shot… Williamson was the only LA player to score in double digits with 10 points… Other scoring Caroline Verdin had 8 points while Savannah Mitchell, Kaitlyn Muir and Kayla Mitchell all had 6 points and Mariclare McIntyre had 3… The Lady Crusaders finish the season with a 15-13… By the way the # 1 seeded LA boys’ team will start state tournament play tomorrow at 5:00 pm as they travel to Orangeburg prep to take on Coastal Christian.

 

NASCAR:

  • Nationwide:  Regan Smith took the win in the season’s first Nationwide race on Saturday… He finished just 0.013 ahead of brad Keselowski… Trevor Bayne, Kyle Bush and Elliott Sadler round out the top 5.
  • Daytona 500:  Well mother nature did not want to cooperate as rain delayed the Daytona 500 yesterday and the race that was suppose to start at 1:30 in the afternoon finally got finished about 11:25 last night and the fans favorite Dale Earnhart Jr. took the checkered flag… This was his 2nd win of the 500 and the first was back in 2004… In picking up his 20th career NASCAR Sprint Cup victory he led for a race high 54 laps… Unofficially, Denny Hamlin finished second, Brad Keselowski finished a close third, with Jeff Gordon in fourth and Jimmie Johnson fifth.

Sports Report for Friday, 2-21-2013

Local Sports Results:

CHS: Well both the Red Devils varsity basketball teams were on the road last night in 1st round AAA Tournament action… The girls traveled to Lower Richland to take on the Lady Diamond Hornets… The boys were not too far away taking on the Falcons of AC Flora.

  • Girls: LR 77 – CHS 27… The Lady Red Devils saw their season come to an end as the defending AAA State Champions as lower Richland defeated Clinton 77-27…. Clinton succumbed to the pressure of LR early and struggled to get anything going offensively… In the second period Clinton had no answer for LR as they scored off of their press, offensive rebounds and fast break opportunities as Clinton continued to struggle offensively and was down 42-14 at the half… The second half was very similar to the first half. Coach Chris Wofford stated afterwards “I can’t say enough about this group, especially the seniors and our captains Queena Cunningham and Bredaisha Walls… Those two never quit and fought to the very end.”… Noelia Leake led the Lady Red Devils with 6 points… Others scoring were Trevoria Dendy & Tamia Sanders both had 4 points while  KT Speaks, Queena Cunningham & Chyna Davis had 3 each… Ticambrius Copeland and Maleaka Neal had 2 points each to round out Clinton’s scoring… Clinton’s season ends with an 8-16 record.
  • Boys: ACF 79 – CHS 61… In boys’ action, the Red Devils ran into a strong Falcon team and fell by a score of 79-61… The score was only 18-10 Flora at the end of the first quarter but Flora transition game gave the Red Devils problems in the 2nd quarter as the Falcons stretched their lead and led 46-25 at the half… The Red Devils regrouped at the half and came out and played better ball all around… Flora led by as much as 24 points in the second half but the Red Devils were able to battle back and get within 12 point midway through the 4th quarter but just could not get any closer… Nike Davis and Tay Cook had 16 points each to lead the Red Devils in scoring… The Red Devils finished the season with an 11-14 record… Congratulations to both teams for making the playoff!!!

 

LDHS: Also last night the Laurens Raiders traveled to Anderson to take on the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets in 1st round AAAA Tournament Action.

  •  TLH 60 – LDHS 42…  Some say that it is hard to beat team 3 times in a season but last night in Anderson TL Hanna did just that as they defeated the defeated the Laurens Raiders 60-42… The Raiders played well in the first half and the score stood 37-30 Hanna at the half… Hannah came back out in the 3rd period and slowly started pulling away from the Raiders and had a 53-37 lead going into the final quarter of play… Hanna started controlling the board better in the 3rd quarter and the Raiders offense started to struggle… Both teams had a poor final quarter as both missed shots and the Raiders were unable to get a bucket until there was only 3:41 left in the game… Hanna simply played ball control and forced Laurens to foul the final few minutes… Jordan Sargent was the only Raiders in double-digits scoring 11 points…  Kezario Whitmore had 8 points for the Raiders while Davon Boyce, Toby Jackson & Chuck Johnson had 5 each… Chris Statom had 4 and both LaDarius Williams and E’Nicholas Leake added to each to round out the Raiders scoring… The Raiders finish their season 12-13 under first year Head Coach Ben Sinclair… The young team had no seniors so the future looks bright for the young team
